3 Mistakes You're Making in Your Tutoring Business

I still remember the feeling I had when I got my first tutoring client.

I opened up an email and read “Hey, I remember you started a tutoring business.  We’re in need of a tutor for both kids.  Are you interested?”

You know that heart-pounding, excited feeling you get when something finally goes your way?

I want that for you.

It’s possible to start getting more tutoring clients with 3 easy tweaks.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed and stuck, I get it.

Getting tutoring clients doesn’t have to be so hard.  Learn from my mistakes and you’ll be shocked how quickly people start messaging you for your amazing expertise and skills.

I did a whole blog post on how to get your first tutoring client.  If you missed that one, go back and read.  Trust me, if you follow my advice, you’ll have a new client sooner than you thought.

I truly believe there are 3 things you are likely not doing in your tutoring business that will dramatically change your monthly revenue.

Will you be an overnight success?  No.  If anyone tells you overnight success is an option, they’re not telling the truth.

It took a long time to finally get clients.  I’ve made mistakes that you can AVOID just by reading this blog each week.  So cheers to you for being a go-getter!

  1. You Don’t Have a Tutoring Blog

Listen, friend.  If you want a thriving tutoring business or side hustle, you need a blog.  Some people might tell you that blogging is dead, but let me tell you, it’s alive and well.  Publishing weekly content on your blog related to your tutoring niche will not only help people find you when they sit down to type in the Google search box for a tutor, but you can help countless tutors, teachers, parents, and kids with your amazing content.  Be sure to strategically create content that relates to your niche.  Making content willy-nilly is not a great way to go.  Using the right keywords will send people to your site.  This won’t happen overnight, so be patient and consistent.

2. You’re Not on Instagram

Yes, Facebook has been around longer, but if you don’t have Instagram for your tutoring biz, you need it right now.  If you’re a teacher, you are missing out on opportunities to connect with thousands upon thousands of fellow teachers on the ‘Gram.  Instagram truly is the place to be.  You can repurpose your blog content on your IG page to help people and make connections.  If you get Instagram after reading this, find me and let’s be friends!

3. You’re Overthinking How to Get Clients

Overthinking is something we all do.  Sometimes the most simple answer is right in front of you.  The demand for in-person and online tutoring right now is increasing by the minute.  Parents want their kids to have a leg up on this crazy school year.  Email friends you know who have kids and ask them if they need any extra help and explain your qualifications as a tutor.  Join Facebook groups for tutoring and connect with families who are looking for tutors.  Join groups that connect fellow tutors so you can get tips and tricks that will help you with overthinking!  Our Tutorpreneur Tribe on Facebook is full of tutors who want to help each other and spread positivity.

So there you have it.  3 things you can work on TODAY to get over the slump you might be in trying to get clients.

Start small so you can skip the overwhelm.  My advice: make a list of these 3 things and check them off one at a time.
