There’s no doubt you’re already an amazing teacher. You wouldn’t be trying to better yourself by creating an online course if you weren’t! You have amazing and unique teaching gifts as a classroom teacher and now it’s time to put those skills to good use. I firmly believe that every teacher has an online course idea in their brain that is profitable. Think of all the awful professional development you’ve had over the years. Have you ever thought to yourself “Man, I could have made that a lot less boring!” Start there and make a list of all the ideas in your mind that you could create an online course about. Narrow it down to your top three ideas and go from there. You’ll likely see a pattern in those ideas.

Yes, we go to college to become teachers but did you feel truly prepared for your first teaching job? One of the things I like to help fellow teachers with is how to structure their literacy block. One of the biggest things we learn as teachers in on the job training is classroom management. Think of something that is special to your classroom that you could teach other teachers.

If I’m being honest, we really don’t get great professional development as teachers. I can’t remember one PD training where I walked away thinking that was something that actually applied to my classroom. There are many states where teachers have to have ongoing professional development in order to keep their teaching licenses. Many school districts will accept a PD certification from a course YOU create. This is a huge selling point for your future course for teachers. Professional development that is actually created for teachers in mind will sell really well.

You’re an expert with proven results to share

You’re an expert in something and you don’t even realize it. Don’t doubt your teaching abilities. Make that list of things you’re really good at teaching and go from there. Your next step will be to create an outline of what the course would look like. Use the teaching skills you already have to create your course.
