5 Blogging Mistakes You Are Probably Making

This is week 3 of our month-long blogging series designed to help you grow you tutoring or teacher business to create passive income.  What would it be like to make money while you’re sleeping or while on vacation!  I recently posted on Instagram how I made $626.30 in one day while I was on vacation at Walt Disney World.  I was waiting in line for the Rise of the Resistance (the new Star Wars ride) and I heard a few cha-chings from my TPT store and I had 2 email notifications that I had sold two of my online courses.  I kept showing my husband my phone because I was in shock!   The truth is, I’ve been hard at this teacher business world for 3 going on 4 years now.  Growing your teacher business takes time and persistence.  If you’re in it to win it, your business will grow.

Earn passive income with your blog

I wanted to share with you 5 blogging mistakes you’re probably making so that you can quit making them and start earning passive income.  My goal for you is to earn money passively while on vacation and while you’re sleeping.  I dive deep into blogging in Tutorpreneur Academy® and From Zero To Cha-Ching and my students know that blogging is the ultimate way to sell your products and services for you.

Your blog needs systems and process in place

You don’t have a system in place

Systems and processes are just a fancy way of saying how you get your blogging done.  Do you sit down randomly and just type up a post OR do you have a content planning strategy that allows you to batch your blog posts?  If you’re not creating a system and a process to get your blogging done, then you’re likely not posting consistently which means you’re not nurturing your audience.  The best way to sell your products and services passively is by blogging about how they solve a specific problem for your ideal customer.  If you’re looking for a way to post about your products and services, you’ll love the ease of Tutorpreneur Promo Kit®, a mini course designed to take the guesswork out of creating social media posts and anything you create can be repurposed for your blog!  Now that’s a win-win.

Your blog needs a niche

You don’t have a niche

You hear me talk about this all the time, but the niches are in the riches.  You’re likely not blogging consistently because you haven’t nailed down your tutoring niche or teacher business niche and you’re stuck when it comes time to write.  Once you figure out who your ideal customer avatar is, you’ll start creating blog posts that solve their problems and speak their language.  The key is to know who your ICA is and write for them.  You can read more about how to turn your teacher expertise into a successful tutoring niche here.

Stop overthinking and start blogging

You’re overthinking everything

I’ve talked to so many teachers who tell me they have no idea what to write about.  When they sit down to write, they start to feel imposter syndrome and talk themselves out of writing.  Stop overthinking everything and start by doing a brain dump of all your ideas.  Set the timer for 20 minutes and put your phone in airplane mode so you can work uninterrupted.  You’ll be shocked by how many great ideas you have.  The more ways you can send people back to your products and services, the more money your blog will generate in the long run.

Start posting blogs consistently

You’re not posting consistently

I mentioned this earlier but posting consistently is going to be the number one way to sell more products over time.  Showing up for your audience on a weekly basis nurtures and takes care of them.  When you’re reading to pull the trigger on a sales email, your email list will be ready to buy because you have taken care of them weekly.  Sit down with your list of content ideas and map out a schedule for the next 3 months.  Posting one blog a week will help you see your amazing ideas come to life.  Ideally, you’ll get to the point where you can map out an entire year at a time and your vision for your business’ future will come together.  It’s truly magic when that happens!  Showing up consistently is going to grow your business over time.

If you’re consistent and patient, results will start showing up. You’ll be so glad you started and did all the hard work!

Start mapping out your blog content ahead of time

You’re not mapping out your content ahead of time

This goes hand and in hand with not posting consistently.  If you’re not posting consistently, it’s likely because you haven’t mapped out your content ahead of time.  Think of your main content pillars while creating a theme for each month.  Let’s say your theme is handwriting.  Think of 4 problems your ideal customer has and make titles for those problems.  Your products and services are likely the solution.  From there, you can repurpose your titles for Instagram carousel posts, YouTube videos, TikTok and so much more.  Once you have these systems and processes in place, you’ll never stress about what to post on your blog or social media again!
