How to Become a Teachers Pay Teachers Seller
Time and time again, teachers in the classroom have turned to Teachers Pay Teachers for ideas and resources. While TpT is a great resource to use in the classroom, selling your own teaching resources is one of the best ways to make extra money as a teacher. Today we are talking about how to become a Teachers Pay Teachers seller.
In today’s blog post, I'm going to teach you how to become a Teachers Pay Teachers seller. You've heard me say this before I'm a big fan of selling your tutoring and/or your teaching resources on TPT. The reason that I think it's such a great platform is because it's already well established, it's well-known and people know how to find it. You’ve likely bought countless products on TPT already, so you know how valuable an amazing resource is! Here are my best Teachers Pay Teachers tips to get your own TPT store started today!
Starting a Teachers Pay Teachers store has the capability of dramatically changing your everyday life
Teachers Pay Teachers has a great search engine so when you're creating your products, other people find them much more easily than they would on your own website. This is one of the ways you can start making daily sales. Another reason that I think you should start selling your teaching resources and become a TPT seller is because it has the capability of dramatically changing your life. If you're still teaching full time, like me, there's going to be times where you're stressed out and maybe you don't want to create products or work on your teacher business. That’s when you hear a “cha-ching” sound on your watch and suddenly, all your hard work has been worth it! That will be a game changer for you when you start making daily sales on TPT. Becoming a TPT seller will be something that you’ll wish you had done sooner rather than later.
Pick a store name that reflects the resources you’re going to be making or simply go with your name
One of my tips for you to get started selling on Teachers Pay Teachers is to pick a store name that's aligned with your niche. A lot of times when we're picking our store name, we overthink it. I know that to be true, because when I was trying to decide my tutoring business name, (you can even ask my husband!) it took me forever. If you already have a tutoring business, then I would name your TPT store the same as your tutoring business. For example, mine is called Literacy Fundamentals and that's also the name of my TPT store. If I was just starting from the beginning, and I wanted to go with my name, that works too! You might not know what your store niche is right now and that’s ok. My tip is to not overthink coming up with your name, it's not that big of a deal. There's some things that are going to go along with the name like creating a logo and all of that but save those steps for after you’ve decided on your business name and niche.
Figure out your TPT store niche by making a list of all the things other teachers ask you for help with
Once you figure out what your TPT store niche is going to be, you can start creating products to fit inside of that niche. It's kind of tempting at first to just make what you think is popular and what people are liking. Try to avoid shiny object syndrome. You want to create resources inside of your niche, which is your favorite thing to teach because you're going to be really good at creating things that are inside your niche versus kind of scatterbrained and not knowing what you're doing. This makes creating products down the road easier. Once you've narrowed down your niche, you're going to start brainstorming all the ideas that you could come up with for products. Maybe you could even go through your external hard drive or Google Drive and just see what you've already created for your classroom. You'll be shocked how many things are already products that you just need to turn into an official product by adding a cover and thumbnails and all of the things that go into a well rounded product listing.
Once you’ve narrowed down your niche, start brainstorming all the topics you could create products for
You’ve narrowed down your niche and you've got some ideas of products you're going to create. Next you you need to become an expert in that one area and that's going to help you dramatically increase your sales. So for me, my business is Literacy Fundamentals and my tutoring niche is reading. My TPT store has lots of reading and writing resources. I can quickly reproduce the same product for a different lesson easily, instead of constantly reinventing the wheel and that will help you make more money over time. You’ll be able to bundle your products easier, and more advanced things down the road once you become a more proficient TPT seller.
Becoming an expert in one area will dramatically increase your results in sales and success
It’s true what they say, “The riches are in the niches.” The more of an expert you can become in one area is going to allow you to make better products for your TPT store that help thousands of teachers.
Those are my best tips for how to become a Teachers Pay Teachers seller. Just remember to go back to the basics when you’re starting and try not to jump ahead to the point where you see people making six figures. It is possible to make 6 figures on TPT, but you can't skip all the steps. You have to name your store and you need to have a niche you need to focus on and become an expert in that area!
