3 Steps to Take Your Tutoring Business to the Next Level

If you’ve already started a tutoring business, you might be looking for ways to take your business to the next level.

If you’re just starting your own tutoring side hustle, you’re starting out on the right foot!

Starting a business can be a scary process.  There’s so much to learn and it feels like everyone is ahead of you.  If you’re suffering from imposter syndrome, go back and read last week’s blog post first where I talk about overcoming imposter syndrome so you can 10x your business.

There’s a few key things you should be doing to level up your Tutorpreneur™ skills.

  1. Treat your business like a business!

First things first: start treating your tutoring job as a REAL BUSINESS because it is one!  The second you start treating your tutoring jobs like a business, you’ll experience a mindset shift that will create prosperity like you wouldn’t believe.

I know many teachers who tutor on the side and don’t realize they could quickly turn their tutoring passion into a full-fledged business. Teachers are a diamond in the rough when it comes to becoming entrepreneurs.  We have classroom management skills that translate well into executing a business plan.  We also know a thing a two about juggling multiple things at once.

2. Commit to lifelong learning

As a teacher, you are a lifelong learner.  Which means you make a great business owner!  In the business world, things are changing all the time.  Commit to learning new things and your business will grow quickly!  Start small and overtime, the online business world will come naturally to you.

Reading business books has transformed my life and my business.  Some amazing books to get you started are: Think and Grow Rich, Atomic Habits, and Everything is Figureoutable.

If you don’t love sitting down with a book, use Audible or some other way to stream audio books.

Business podcasts are a great way to learn new skills in bite size chunks.  Heck, it’s one of the ways I overcame teacher burnout.  Listening to business podcasts to and from work literally saved my life and pushed me to start a tutoring business.

3. Create relationships outside the classroom

As a Tutorpreneur, it’s important to network with other teachers/entrepreneurs who are just like you! There are many ways to make connections with one of the best ways being Facebook groups. The Tutorpreneur Tribe is a great place to meet other tutors and bounce ideas off the group! I also love making connections on Instagram. Teachers have found their place there! Listening to experts in marketing, business creation and the online world will help your business evolve and grow in more ways than you ever thought possible.

Listening to people who have gone before you will also create opportunities to connect with like minded people. It wasn’t until I hired a business coach (like yours truly) and started paying for courses that all the dots were connected.

You’ve got this! Let me know what your tutoring business niche is in the comments!
