How to Treat Your Tutoring Business Like a Business

Treating your tutoring side-hustle like a business is the first step to become a successful Tutorpreneur™.   Once you make the mindset shift from tutoring on the side to thriving business owner, your impact will grow exponentially.  I’m such a believe in mindset shift, that I’ve dedicated a whole module in the Tutorpreneur Academy™ to this very subject.

When you wake up in the morning, your first habit sets the tone for your day.  Do you check your phone and scroll social media?

If so, this is a habit all successful CEO’s avoid.  Instead of checking your phone, what if you got up a bit earlier and made a tutoring resource for your TPT store?  Or what if you did a workout AND while you were working out ideas for your business started flowing.  (By the way, this happens to me every morning when I exercise).

Read this quote out loud: “How you do anything is how you do everything.”

Say it again to yourself.

If you’re waking up with just barely enough time to get to work, that sets the tone for your whole day.

Imagine getting up an hour earlier to work on your tutoring business.  An hour over one week adds up.  That’s seven hours a week, and 30+ hours a month.  That’s almost an ENTIRE DAY you’d be spending moving the needle on your business.

Here are the things successful tutors are doing consistently:

1. Talk like a CEO

Instead of saying “I tutor on the side”, change your language to “I own and operate a successful tutoring business.”  There is a lot of power in the language you use to think about yourself and your business.

2. Walk the Talk

Saying you’re successful is the first step to achieving your dreams.  Now, act the part.  Do your habits match the level of success you desire? If not, what can you do to flip the switch.  If you haven’t read Atomic Habits yet, it’s a must read for changing your habits for good.

3. Look the part

I’m not talking about how you physically look, but how does your business look?  Do you have a website to send people when they inquire about your services?  A website is a key ingredient to success in any business.  In the Tutorpreneur Academy™, I not only teach you what you need on your website, but my own website designer will teach you everything you need to know to set up your website the proper way as an added bonus!

4. Be smart with money

I’m a firm believer that you don’t need to spend money on ads to get new clients.  However, I do believe you will need to spend money to make money.  One example of a great way to effectively spend money in your business is paying someone to help you with a task that you either don’t know how to do or don’t have the time to learn.  I mentioned my website designer, Erica, before, and she’s a great example of an amazing person I pay to work on my website so I don’t have to learn coding.  She’s worth every penny and MORE!

5. Network to Build and Serve

Meeting other people in the tutoring and teaching world is vital to building a business and to best serve your audience.  We can’t be masters of everything but we can meet people who have experiences in different areas.  Instead of looking at people in our industry as competition, what if we took the abundance mindset and could grow from our interactions?  Some of the best ways to network with other tutors are on Instagram and Facebook!

You’re not just a tutor, you’re a Tutorpreneur™ with big dreams.  Maybe you want to work for yourself or pay off your car.  Or just maybe, you’d like to have financial freedom and peace.

I want that for you too!  Not sure where to begin?  Grab the free guidebook that will be your roadmap to get started!

Have you joined our Instagram party? Head on over and send me a DM.  I’d love to know what your tutoring niche is and what CEO traits you have!
